This time of year is pretty hectic no matter how you look at it and it’ s so hard to really keep Christ the focus of Christmas. Every year I try to simplify or do things more intentional in the area of focusing on Christ, but there is so much to be done, I always seem to lose focus or get sidetracked at some point.
One of the things I do to help is to do a Bible study the entire month of December that focuses on Christ’s birth or Christmas. This at least gets me focused in the right direction each morning or brings me back to what is really important and what this season truly is all about.
My favorite Bible study for keeping Christ the focus of Christmas is Time to Get Serious
by Tony Evans.

This year-long devotional wraps it all up by focusing the entire month of December on the birth of Jesus. Yes, 5 days a week, all month reading parts of the Christmas story. The first year I did this study, I had no idea there was that much to it! But wow, what I’ve learned. And almost every year since then, I have gone back to this study and re-read and studied it again-gleaning more each year. There is just something about the way Tony Evans tells you like it is.
I wanted to share this with you since I’ll be starting this again tomorrow, December 1st, and would love for you to join me. I’ll be scoping about it on Wednesdays this month also and want to invite you to join in on the conversation. Even if you aren’t doing the book, you can join us and share and learn. Are you ready to Get Serious about keeping Christ the focus of Christmas?
This year will actually be different for me because I’m doing TWO Bible studies this month! Not because I’m that holy or devout-it’s more like I need 2 Bible studies each day. 🙂 Another study has been highly recommended and so I’m excited about trying it out and it is an Advent study. But I just can’t give up reading through my old study, so I’m doing both.
This new recommended study is The Promises Advent Study by Kari Denker. It’s a journal and doodle Bible study and even has a coloring book that comes with it so you can color, journal and doodle and is made so your kids can join you in studying. I have to admit, this is a totally different study for me, but I’m excited that I can do it with my kids this month. Who knows, I may just like the doodling! The study is the Old Testament prophecies and how they are revealed in Christ which sounds awesome. I LOVE studying the Old Testament. (Yes, I really like history.)
If you aren’t sure who Kari Denker is or want to know more about her and this study before buying it, then listen to the latest Cultivating the Lovely podcast. Kari is interviewed and shares how God led her to begin writing these studies and tells more about her life. Oh and if you use the code BOLD10, you can save 10% off the study and support the Cultivating the Lovely ministry-but that code expires soon!
And we’ll be talking herbs on Periscope this month! I’ll be taking a break from Walking the Aisles to share how we stay well during the winter season. This week I’ll be sharing my top foods and herbs we take regularly and tell why you should be consuming them too. So make sure you watch this Thursday around 11:30. This will lead into a later Periscope class on making your own probiotic foods and drinks. All of which leads us to the new year when I’ll be doing a series on A New Year, A Better You-Naturally.
So get your calendar out and mark the days, so you don’t miss out! If you don’t have a planner for this new year and if you are a blogger or know a blogger or are interested in becoming a blogger then let me suggest the Inspired Bloggers Network Blogging Planner. I purchased this planner last month and it is more like a course and a planner. Tabitha Philen has pulled out all the stops in this 200+ page planner and is scoping each weekday on each section and how to use this amazing tool to its fullest potential. If you are a blogger and don’t buy the planner at least check her out on Periscope-you will be amazed at what you learn-for FREE!
Oh my December is not even here yet and my head is already spinning! I think that’s why God has given me 2 Bible studies this year-I’m gonna need them if I am going to keep Christ my focus this year during Christmas. But I am determined to remember what truly is important and to let all else go if that is what it takes to draw close to Him and celebrate Him on His birthday.
Until next time-Happy Herbing and Focusing on Him!
