Well, nobody likes a sick day right? I mean a day when you really are sick-or the kids are sick. Ugh! Who has time for that? But we all know it happens. No matter how healthy, or how many herbs we have on hand, things are bound to happen. Stress, busy-ness, eating junk, and exposure to external chemicals and germs-these all happen. But every once in a while, I think God ALLOWS us to have a sick day. Yes, I said ALLOWS. I think sometimes we just need to STOP all the craziness that happens in life or at least SLOW DOWN for a few moments to focus in on what is really important. If you’re like me, there is no time that I really focus and realize what’s truly important more that when I’m sick or my family is sick.
Lately I’ve been trying to rearrange our schedule and get focused on achieving some goals I have. We finished school several weeks back so a whole chunk of our morning is freed up now, but that doesn’t mean it needs to be wasted. Which is exactly what will happen if I don’t get us on a new schedule. If you’ve been around me lately, you’ve probably heard me say-“I need to plan out all I have to get done because I have so much to do, but I have so much to do, I don’t have time to sit down and plan it out!” It’s a vicious cycle that’s easy to get into but will quickly put us in a rut. And you know what a rut is?
A rut is just a grave with no ends!
Wow does that put it into perspective or what? So I have been praying over getting us into a good, FUNCTIONAL, summer schedule or routine. And just like God always does, He provided just what I needed! I have started Crystal Payne from Money Saving Mom’s Make Over Your Mornings and it is so good! It is filled with little tidbits of how to get more focused on your goals and more productive in your days. Best of all, it’s not overwhelming-she actually tells you not to bite off more than you can chew-and it’s so encouraging and motivating! I highly recommend it!
I got started on it motivated and ready to go, but right as I got started (Day 5 to be exact) I got sick! Needless to say, I don’t feel like being very productive in anything but sleep and rest! But I pushed through and was able to actually accomplish a few things today-like resting and doing some writing and planning. And I am beginning to see the blessing in my cold. It has made me slow down and plan some stuff out-so I don’t run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to get things done but not really accomplishing much. We’ve all been there! But, mind you, I am actively taking herbs and trying to get well because WHO LIKES BEING SICK! (Click here to see what we take when we’re sick.)
One of the things you are told in Make Over Your Mornings, is after identifying your goals and/or priorities, tell someone about it! We all need accountability, but most of us really don’t like being held accountable. That means we have to open up and be vulnerable to others-OUCH! But to stick to our goals and really be consistent we NEED that. And I’ve decided to share with you two of my goals for the summer. I have to admit, I am very goal oriented and like to see the “finished result” of my efforts, but not all goals are short term or have tangible results. This can be frustrating for people like me, so I think it’s important to have some short term goals with results that can been seen to encourage and motivate us to stay the course on our longer, life goals. Now on to my summer goals:
1. Devote some time each day to 2HerbItUp.
I have such big plans for 2HerbItUp, both locally and for the website itself. It took several years of praying and thinking about to start my website and God has been blessing. I really feel He wants to use it to bless others and grow me-but I’m just a slow growing plant right now. I feel it’s time to get serious and intentional about my efforts here and hope you see a big difference in the weeks and months to come. No, you won’t see a new post everyday, but I do hope to have at least 1 new post a week and I’m hoping to have some of my products set up on my site for sale as well as showing them at some local farmer’s markets. And by the fall, I hope to have an e-pamphlet on my most used herbs. I actually have gotten off to a good start on this just in the last few days.
These are some of the products I’ve made lately and hope to offer them on my site soon!
2. Unclutter and redecorate several rooms in our house.
Now I could go through our entire house on this one, but I am trying to keep my goals attainable. My main focus is going to be our kitchen and laundry room. I want to go through uncluttering and reorganizing. I really don’t like when things aren’t efficient or organized. Now with 3 kids, things aren’t always as organized as I’d like them, but I’ve realized that time well spent with family is more important than a neat house. But with that said, I also know that a clean, organized house often leads to a more peaceful family. Who can have peace when shoes, toys or favorite stuffed animals are lost in clutter, but needed immediately? This summer, I plan on making these (at least) two rooms more functional using some simple, budget-friendly decorating and reorganizing. To put it more specific, finding a home in the kitchen for those items I use most and moving or getting rid of the ones I don’t. My counters are way too cluttered, but everything can’t go in cabinets-that’s not functional nor do I have enough cabinets! As for the laundry room, it ends up becoming the catch all for all my canning and herb making items, but they need to be more organized and accessible-while still allowing room to actually have laundry in there. All of this I’ll have on here, holding me accountable and hopefully inspiring you too!
Now I do have some other more personal goals-for myself, my family, and time devoted to God- that I plan to achieve, and hopefully those will lead to more productivity in the two areas mentioned above. And I’d say I’m off to a good start-but the way you finish is more important than the way you start. So how about you? Want to join me in setting and attaining some goals. It’s so much more fun traveling together. What are your goals and how are you working toward attaining them? How do you stay the course? I’d love to hear how you stay focused on your daily and life goals. Maybe you are like me and need an extra boost in getting organized and focused. Come join me and the hundreds of others who have decided to Make Over Your Mornings so we can truly impact those around us. Who knows what God has in store for us!
Happy Goal Setting and Herbing It UP!
