I tried my hand at some baked sweet potato fries last week and they were amazing!

Have you ever wanted a side dish that had all the flavor of fries, but none of the junk? Well, that exactly where I was a few weeks ago while making out my menu for the week. Although it’s the middle of winter, it hasn’t felt much like winter lately. This has made it hard to enjoy those hearty soups that warm you up on those cold winter evenings. I’ve just wanted something different. But we’ve been so busy I needed something that was as quick as it was healthy. Enter baked, sweet potato fries. (Hmm-so are they really fries since they aren’t fried? Well, anyway….)
My kids and I love sweet potato fries. A few restaurants in our area have offered them from time to time and the kiddos keep asking if they still serve them. But unfortunately, none do. Of course, I’m pretty sure the restaurant versions are fried and the seasoning is full of ingredients I’d rather not have any of us ingest. So maybe it’s just a blessing I was forced to make my own.
I decided to try a few new recipes these last couple of weeks and these baked sweet potato fries were a huge hit. My family scarfed them down so fast my head was spinning. And they were asking why I didn’t cook more. Best of all they are full of all the goodness of sweet potatoes without the frying or the chemical seasonings. They were even so quick and easy to bake up, I cooked up another batch for lunch the next day in no time at all.
Ok enough telling you how great these are, let’s get on to the making of them.
How to make baked sweet potato fries at home.
First grab a few sweet potatoes. (I used 4 for my first batch.) Peel and cut them into thin strips (fries). You can make these as thick or thin as you want. I like them on the small fry size.
Melt one stick of real, pastured butter and mix in some sea salt , pepper garlic, and paprika
Pour the seasoned butter over the fries and toss to coat. (Don’t worry I won’t tell anyone if you lick your fingers clean). I let my first batch marinate for 20-30 minutes and the second batch I immediately cooked. Either way will work, but I think I prefer to marinate if I’m not in too much of a hurry.
Line two large sheet pans with parchment paper and spread the fries on the pans. For that slightly-crispy-on-the-outside fry, make sure the fries are spread evenly in a single layer.
Bake in a 450 degree oven for about 15 minutes. Shake the pans a few times during baking. When you pull them out, let them sit on the pan for about 3 minutes before piling them in a bowl-this keeps them nice and crispy.
Next time you need a quick side dish for a party or just to spice up a weeknight meal, you can whip up these baked sweet potato fries and feel good about serving them to friends and family.

- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Peel and cut sweet potatoes into thin sticks. Melt butter and add seasonings. Pour over cut potatoes and toss to coat. Let marinate for about 20 min. Preheat oven during this time. Shake pans twice during baking to help coat fries with seasoning. Let stand 3 minutes then serve.
Until next time,
