Have you ever looked at what all is in your kitchen and bath cleaners? A lot of chemicals that you probably can’t pronounce and are toxic. You might say, “But I’m not putting them on my body or eating or drinking them, so what does it matter?” Well, first you are breathing them in. So you are ingesting them that way. And unless you wear gloves EVERY TIME you clean, you are absorbing them through the skin on your hands. Did you know that your skin is your largest organ? Ok so maybe you really do wear gloves. But what happens to all those toxic chemicals after you clean with them and rinse or flush them down the drain? They get absorbed into the water and cause a whole host of problems. And well, if all that isn’t enough for you to ditch your store bought cleaners here’s one last very good reason to-MAKING IT YOURSELF IS SO MUCH CHEAPER!
When I started making my own cleaner, I couldn’t believe how easy and cheap it was. And it was fun! I knew exactly what was going into it and could play around with different ingredients and scents. I could customize them for my needs while saving money. SCORE!
This recipe contains orange and lemon peel which are antibacterial and whitening. Baking soda adds to the whitening and germ killing power. Adding some lemon or orange essential oil is optional but would add to the antibacterial qualities. Oh and the smell is amazing-even without the essential oils.
- Grind citrus peel in coffee grinder or blender until finely ground. Combine all ingredients in glass jar. Add essential oils at this point if using those. Cap jar and shake to mix. To use, sprinkle 1 tsp on area to be cleaned and scrub with a wet sponge.
With summer right around the corner, I know many people are cleaning out and cleaning up. What a great way to clean with natural citrus that awaken and energize. So go ahead and get that house sparkling clean for all those summer parties and get-togethers. Just do it the natural way!
